We were Chartered April 17, 1912 as the International Hod Carriers and Building Laborers’ Union.

In 1955, the International, a charter member of the AFL-CIO Industrial Union Department, began organizing non-construction workers.

In 1965, the union officially changed its name to Laborers’ International Union of North America, reflecting the continual expansion of the union beyond the construction field.

We are proud to be (1) one of 500 Laborers’ Unions throughout the United States and Canada.

A Laborers' work include building and repairing of roads, highways, bridges, and tunnels, drilling and blasting site areas, construct residential and commercial buildings, clean up hazardous waste sites along with asbestos & lead abatement work, tending masons and building & dismantling of scaffolding, preparing and cleaning up a job site, laying water and sewer pipe underground, gas line distribution, placing concrete, flagging and controlling traffic on roadways, working with other crafts, just to name a few.

Our ‘skilled’ craft trade has a range of skills and is one of the most diverse in the industry. We fight for fair wages, health and safety protection, the respect and the freedom to join together in a union, access to healthcare and retirement.
